What is a Marketing Audit?

In the marketing audit we investigate all aspects of the clients marketing effort and submit a report which is, in effect, a "snapshot" of their process. We then offer a situation analysis with recommendations aimed at helping the client better achieve their marketing goals.

Why?

We perform marketing audits to help clients achieve a better perspective on their marketing situation. Typically, a company decides they need this objective view of their markets and marketing efforts when they have grown very quickly, are entering a new market or simply believe their marketing is less effective than desired. It is often the first step in the marketing planning process.

How?

The Marketing Audit typically includes these steps:

  • A discovery meeting with the client which usually consists of 2 or 3 days of interviews with client management, salespeople and staff.

  • Secondary source market investigation, including possible telephone interviews with key customers (if client approves) and industry watchers.

  • Analysis of information.

  • Synthesis of ideas and writing of recommendations

The audit generally takes from 4 - 6 weeks to complete.

Based upon the results of this exercise, our recommendations may include a proposal to conduct market research (if there is not enough data to make sound marketing decisions). If there is sufficient information it is time to begin the marketing planning process during which we help you define your marketing objectives, strategies and tactics, develop action items and budgets, and assign responsibilities.
